Frequently Asked Questions about Coastal Bath & Kitchen

Roll your mouse over the question to reveal the answer.

How long have you been in business?
Over 30 years ago, in 1979, we first opened our doors as Coastal Marble Company, the areas first manufacturer of cultured marble surfaces for the kitchen and bath.
Does it cost anything to meet with you for a consultation?
No. At no expense to you, we will visit your home, examine the actual space of the potential project, take exact dimensions, and listen to your wants and needs. We will then design and price the project within your specifications and budget. Once the design has been completed, we ask that you come in to the showroom to review the design, make selections, and approve the cost of the project. (PLEASE REVIEW OUR COMPLETE DESIGN POLICY UNDER THE ‘WHY CB&K TAB’)
What kind of homes do you design for?
We design and install in residential homes of all ages and all sizes. Whether you are building a new home or considering renovating an existing one, we work hard to design your space in a way as to respect the intended architecture of the home.
Do you also work on commercial projects?
Absolutely! Many local and national builders contract with us to help design, supply and install products for their commercial projects ranging from hotels to office buildings and restaurants.
Do you just design and remodel kitchens and baths?
No. Although we try to restrict ourselves to kitchens and baths, our main areas of expertise, we also design and install custom closet suits, laundry rooms, home offices, media centers, bookcases and bedroom furniture.
What exactly is ‘Aging in Place’ or ‘Universal Design’?
When designing a homes kitchen or bathroom, it is important to consider not only your current wants and needs but also updates that will improve your quality of life further down the road. With ‘Universal Design’ or ‘Aging In Place’ concepts, we can eliminate disability issues in the design process. As an example, if you plan on staying in the home you’re currently remodeling, you may not need to install grab bars in and around your tubs and showers at this point in time, but it could be very beneficial to have your contractor install blocking inside the walls around them to better plan for the future.
How can you create a budget for something that hasn’t been designed yet?
This is where our years of experience first become most beneficial for our customers. Many homeowners have a difficult time arriving at an investment amount because of the wide range of products and the different trades involved in their potential project. Good research and a thorough understanding of the different fields of construction in the kitchen and bath industry allow us to sit down with you after our initial visit and help you prioritize spending based on your wants and needs.
Will you work on small projects?
Of course! Small projects are how we first started out. Had it not been for the small projects, we never would have had the chance to grow and gain the reputation we have today. Whether you are looking for a complete kitchen renovation or just want us to install a new frameless glass shower door, all of our projects are handled professionally and with the same amount of care.
Do we need an architect if we are considering making structural changes to our space?
No. Our continuing education and on-site experience has allowed us to become very well versed in general construction. We frequently move walls, windows and doors, and often install small additions in the course of providing our customers with the best design solution for their project. All our project contractors are fully licensed to ensure your project is designed and built with integrity.
Why shouldn’t I do it myself?
Basically, because you want it done right and you want to get the best value for your money. Today, the kitchen and bath are the two most expensive rooms in the home to remodel. Updating or renovating these two rooms is a much more involved project than most homeowners are aware. Hiring an experienced professional that is a member of The National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) guarantees that you receive a newly renovated kitchen or bath that follows not only form, but most importantly, function.
Will our project come in on time and on budget?
All designers and remodelers are going to answer this question with a firm yes! But let’s face it. There are times in construction and remodeling when circumstances beyond our control might cause a delay in a project, such as when structural problems are discovered inside an existing wall, or when water damage is discovered under an existing floor. In these situations, our experience in project scheduling and our solid relationships with our expert tradesmen make it possible to tackle these issues head on. So, to answer this as truthfully as we do all of our direct questions, we need to split them up. Will your project finish within budget and without any hidden extra fees? Absolutely! Can we promise you that your project will finish on time and be completed the very day the schedule shows? Absolutely not! We can, however, promise you that any and all hidden damage and unforeseen issues are handled professionally and expeditiously.
What exactly is ‘Turn-Key’ service?
Each of our remodeling projects is catered to the individual client and to what extent he/she would like us to carry out their particular job. The majority of our clients request ‘Turn Key’ service. In these situations, our team at Coastal Bath & Kitchen handles the entire project for the homeowner from tear-out to clean-up.
I have an appointment… What should I bring with me?
Anything and everything is the best answer we can give to this question. Books, product articles, even pictures torn from magazines are the easiest way to show your designer what interests you. Even with our knowledge of today’s newest and latest trends and products, everyone’s idea of a great looking interior vastly differs. The best way to guarantee your designer/remodeler knows exactly what look you’re going for and what products interest you is with pictures of door styles, finishes, colors and furnishings.
